{"id":2355,"date":"2020-09-02T19:06:12","date_gmt":"2020-09-02T09:06:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sunshinecoastpaddlesportsclub.com.au\/?p=2355"},"modified":"2020-09-02T19:06:13","modified_gmt":"2020-09-02T09:06:13","slug":"dunethin-rock-roll-10km-paddle-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunshinecoastpaddlesportsclub.com.au\/sckc\/2020\/09\/02\/dunethin-rock-roll-10km-paddle-race\/","title":{"rendered":"Dunethin Rock &#038; Roll 10km Paddle Race"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a report on\nfrom the Sunshine Coast Paddlesports Club following their hosting of a race as\npart of the Pacific Coast Paddle Series at Dunethin Rock on 9 August 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On 13 July, following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, Paddle Queensland inquired if the club would host a race on 9\u00a0August for the Pacific Coast Paddle Series.\u00a0 After a short consideration the committee agreed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This set in motion a\nfrantic pace of events to obtain permits from Council and Marine Services\nQueensland.&nbsp; COVID-19 added further\nimpost to an already tight deadline.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There were\napproximately 20 volunteers and committee extends a special thank you to these\npeople who gave up competing and\/ or their Sunday, to ensure a successful day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All volunteers\ncompleted an online recognition of COVID-19 course prior to the day.&nbsp; A COVID-19 specific overseer helped remind\nattendees to continue to do the right thing.&nbsp; All non-paddlers were requested to sign a\nCOVID-19 register.&nbsp; The list of\nparticipants and their contact details plus the non-paddler contact list were\nprovided to the caretakers of the scout hall as part of the hire\nagreement.&nbsp; Volunteers were advised of\ntheir role in a pre-race briefing.&nbsp; All\nvolunteers were provided with a list of phone numbers of other volunteers to\nensure all round communication could occur if necessary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The majority of volunteers came from the club but a special\nmention must be made of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>All club volunteers that manned\nnecessary sections such Narelle, Vicky and Rita on registration; Jane as the\nCOVID-19 overseer; Dave as the parking monitor. <\/li><li>Paul and Csilla Shipton for\nphotography.<\/li><li>Matt Ramke-Meyer for social media\nadverting and arranging prizes and give-aways.<\/li><li>Assistance from Buck Rogers, Mooloolaba\nPaddlers and Jake Hudson with the timing, start lists and Webscorer.<\/li><li>Members of the Paddle Queensland Flatwater\nTechnical Committee who worked on the ground alongside club members. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This commitment from the executive is very welcome and appreciated.\u00a0 Additionally, the expertise of Jake &amp; Buck was critical in the event&#8217;s success.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to COVID-19, only coffee was available to purchase.&nbsp; Participants were advised to bring their own\nfood, drinks and wash down water.&nbsp; &nbsp;Dunethin Rock Scout Hall only has tank water\nwhich could not extend to washing equipment down.&nbsp; Paddlers were advised on the Friday via email\nof the schedule of events which was:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">7:30am&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; registration opened<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">8.30am&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; registration closed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">9.00am&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Welcome from the club and race\nbriefing<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">10.00am First wave\nstarts.
