Winter Paddling

I hope you’re all staying warm out on the water — for me, thermals and booties are essential winter kit!

New Shed Update

The new shed is nearly complete! Huge thanks to:

  • Wayne West (Westaway Electrical) – for lighting advice, installation, and the extra security camera
  • Mat Briggs – for guiding and completing the storm water and drainage work
  • Lach Kent – for manoeuvring heavy machinery in tight spaces
  • Volunteers – who rolled up their sleeves and got the job done: Pete Melia, Brendan Carroll, Graeme Hudson, Andrew Wassell, Beau Cain-Bishop, Tim Kreis, and Delia West

To open the new shed doors:

Enter the club house as usual via the front, center roller door. Inside, you’ll see a panel on the left wall with three buttons – one for each shed door. Press the one you need. Inside the new shed, you’ll also find timed light switches and a door-close panel. Please remember to press the door-close panel when exiting.

Old Shed & Clubhouse Renovations

We’ll soon begin relocating craft and racks from the old shed to the new one. After that, we’ll start remodeling the central area, beginning with demolition of the current toilet, shower, and change rooms.  We’ll need plenty of volunteers for this—watch this space for demolition day dates!

Do you know someone registered with RPEQ (Registered Professional Engineers Qld)?

If we can access this professional advice at cost price, it would save the club a significant amount.

Paddle Queensland Schools Marathon – 19 June

Congratulations to all our paddlers – for some, this was their first kayak race, and your sportsmanship really stood out.  Results can be found on Webscorer and photos on our facebook page.

  • Jason Keating – for Saturday and race-day coaching
  • Jake – for Saturday coaching
  • Jason Caldow, Mat Briggs, Graeme Hudson, Paul de Beer, Ivan Williams, and others who helped load the trailer
  • All the parents and helpers who got up at 3:30am on Tuesday to drive to Coomera

Membership Renewals

Reminders from Paddle Australia should be hitting your inbox. Please contact Paddle Australia directly if you experience any issues renewing your membership.

Storage Reminder

Just a friendly reminder: the clubhouse is not your personal storage space. You pay for boat storage. Any extra items you wish to keep at the club should be stored in your boat.

It’s a shared space – please respect others:

  • Don’t leave gear all over the floor put it in a locker box.
  • Return yoga mats to storage so they don’t get filthy.
  • If your gear doesn’t fit in a locker box, you’re probably bringing too much — consider leaving some items in your car during training.

Yes, it may seem like no one else is around at 5:15am, but people coming in later are affected by what you leave behind.
