Feature Story: Improving Eudlo Creek’s Health

Good news—our beautiful Eudlo Creek is a little healthier with the removal of a hazardous cast net that was adrift mid-river.

Thanks to the eagle eyes of Arlene during a recent training session, a discarded ghost net was spotted. Dogged determination by club members – Arlene, Delia and Batch was evident as they attempted to retrieve the large net.  Two fishermen in a passing motor boat responded to our request for help and managed to tow the mud filled net to the opposite shore.  Unfortunately an eel was already a casualty. Arlene’s skills as a wildlife vet were invaluable and she was able to successfully release a trapped whiting and stingray. Well done team and thanks to everyone who cares for our beautiful marine environment.

Grants Update

Gambling Community Benefit Fund: We were successful in securing an $85,000 grant to build a new storage shed and fence, thanks to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

Buderim Foundation: We’ve also received a $3,500 grant from the Buderim Foundation for a new motor for the dinghy. This is incredibly timely, as our current motor is nearing the end of its life—thank you!

Play Our Way: Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in our bid for new K1, K2, and K4 craft from the Play Our Way Grants through the Department of Health and Ageing.

Clubhouse Overcrowding

The clubhouse is getting busier these days! As we wait for our new shed, please help us manage the space by only bringing into the clubhouse what you really need. Consider leaving things like change of clothes, towels, and paddle covers in your car to reduce trip hazards.

Also, we kindly ask that push bikes be parked outside the clubhouse.
