November 2023 Newsletter

Dear Sunshine Coast Paddlesports Club Members

Annual General Meeting (AGM):  The AGM was held, and the incumbents were re-elected unopposed.  Some new committee members were introduced, including Justin and Deb Wright as general committee members and Nicky Donaldson as head coach. Thanks to those who attended.

Club Christmas Party: The club Christmas party will take place on December 9th at the club house. We have catering arranged, and the cost will be $10 per person. Please advise of your intention to attend for catering purposes. BYO drinks.

Paddle Australia Awards: Congratulations to our finalists.  Even though they didn’t win, it’s still an achievement to be recognised as finalists.

Member Achievements: Our club members have been competing in various events recently:

  • Elke Madlener and Scott Smallwood competed in the Island Paddle Race sponsored by Paddles at Warana, the shop where you can get everything you need for paddling .
  • Hawkesbury Canoe Classic: Annette was disappointed to report that she and her paddling partner James, tipped out after being caught on the Wisemans Ferry lines.  Although both lost some equipment and were bitterly disappointed at getting to 75km with only 26km to go; at least they were uninjured save for some big bruises.

November Time Trial Results – 7.5km Course

Lach & Nicky K2                  41:32 min

Geoff Pearce K1                  42:04 min

Jake & Evie Double Ski      44:24 min

Tim & Delia K2                   48:52

Tim & Delia were muddy buddies after getting caught on a crab pot riverside of the Eudlo Creek bridges.   With the low tide they had to wallow through the mud to reach some firm footing to re-enter the boat.  After the time trail, there was some K4 training for the sprints.  It’s a wonder Tim and Delia were allowed in the boat.  Pongo was the word of the day!

2023 Canoe Sprint School and State Championships are on next weekend – November 10, 11 and 12 at SYC Oxenford Watersports Centre 33 Watersports Lane, Oxenford, QLD.  The Y42032 and other club members have been training hard for this event.  Good luck to all those competing.
