July 2023 Newsletter

Over the last three months, several club members, including myself, had the opportunity to travel overseas.  I would like to extend gratitude to the committee for looking after the club affairs during this time.  A special thank you goes out to the following individuals who took care of various responsibilities in my absence:

  •  Annette Dawson for handling the mail
  •  Joe Ballantyne for his work on the Maroochy River Paddle
  •  Paul Shipton for managing the Saturday learners’ sessions

As much as it was lovely to be away and catch up with family, the Sunshine Coast is a fantastic place to to come home to.

Congratulations and Recognition

We extend our congratulations to Joe Wills and Bill McGuinn for being selected for the Paddle Queensland Pathways program. Well done!

Paddle Queensland Safety Sessions

The next Paddle Queensland is session being held at our club will be on 12 August.  This is a Volunteers Workshop and may be of interest to club members who volunteer at state and national events and or the upcoming Maroochy River Paddle.  Don’t miss this valuable opportunity to enhance your knowledge.

Maroochy River Paddle

Our annual club race is scheduled for Sunday 27 August starting from Dunethin Rock and finishing in Eudlo Creek.  All permits and bookings are in place and the entries are open via Webscorer.

To make this event a success, we need volunteers to assist with various tasks, including registration, safety boats, photography, parking management, craft scrutiny, start and finish line coordination. Please let us know if you can spare a few hours to help set up in the morning or assist with tasks throughout the day.

Unfortunately, we have lost a few major sponsors recently. If any of you know of companies that would like to be part of our event and support our club, please get in touch with us.

Sponsorship and Support

We are delighted to extend our gratitude to the Caloundra Music Festival for their generosity and support.

They have provided a three-day, family ticket valued at $1,000 (two adults, one youth and one child).

Tickets are on sale now and the winner will be drawn at the Maroochy River Paddle.
