A very busy day at the clubhouse on 5 November with 50 paddlers in total from 5:30am to 9am groups; as well as our AGM. A fantastic effort from all involved and many thanks to coaches, instructors and volunteers.
AGM
Thanks to everyone who attended our AGM yesterday. We value your input and appreciate your time.
Delia West tabled her report and thanked committee members for the hard work throughout the year.
Doug Brennan provided a summary of the financial statement for the 2021 financial year. Although there were some abnormalities due to grants received in one FY and expended in another; expenditure for clubhouse extension plans; and the Maroochy River Paddle being cancelled due to COVID in August 2021, the balance sheet continues to show a healthy position with a net asset position.
The 2022 – 2023 elected committee are: Delia West – president, Doug Brennan – treasurer, Paul Shipton – secretary, Tim Kreis and Lachlan Kent – general committee members, Jason Keating – head coach, and Matt Ramke-Meyer media officer.
Paddle Queensland (PQ) Sprints 3&4 December, Lake Kawana
This event is being held at Lake Kawana and it’s a great opportunity to participate and watch some fast racing without having to travel too far. I encourage you to participate for the experience and/ or attend to support club members in their races. Entries close 9 November.
Christmas Party Date Change
Please note that due to the PQ sprints being held on 3 & 4 December, our club Christmas party has been rescheduled to Saturday 10 December at 5pm. Bring a plate to share and your wear your party hat!
Come & Try/ Learn to Paddle
A handful of U12 and U10 children have been doing training on Saturday mornings for the last four weeks with Delia, Jake and Graeme. They are: Liam and Bianca McLoughlin, Ben Castelli, Evie Hudson-Wood, Anton Garrido and his friend Joe. Liam and Bianca are experienced and will be participating in the sprints at Lake Kawana. Well done to Ben, Evie, Anton and Joe. Your persistence has paid off as shown by your newly acquired paddling ability. Children received a tee-shirt printed with the club logo as acknowledgement of achievement. These children will continue to train at 9am on Saturdays under the guidance of our senior juniors: Neiva Wright, Joe Wills, Jada Baker and Pierrick Cartier with additional assistance from adults as required.
The come and try/ learn to paddle group are progressing well under the instruction from Jason Keating. Lachlan Kent has been our usual instructor assisting Jason with this group but this week, Rob Millsom stepped in when Lachie was unavailable. Rob is one of our three life members and has been instrumental in the making of champions in the past. Thanks Rob.
November Time Trial Results
There was a mixed tide towards the high tide mark and rain run off ie outgoing in Eudlo Creek but incoming in Maroochy River. BOM reported SSE winds at 20km with 30km gusts. This made the long course times slower than estimates. The short course turn around at David Low bridge on Petrie Creek was hampered by a moored dinghy.
