New Roller Doors

The Sunshine Coast Council provided a grant of $9,403 to replace the rusted roller doors in our club house.

The new roller doors were installed last Wednesday.  This involved the removal and replacement of some kayaks.  Thanks to Graeme Hudson for help with this task.  There is a now a motor on the back centre door.  The switch is located on the back wall near the paddle bucket.  The locks on the front creek-side and road-side doors will be changed to club key access over the coming week.

New Guppy K1s & Paddles

A grant of $9,750 from the Department of of Industry, Innovation and Science, Australian Government has funded three new K1 guppies and paddles.  The Stronger Communities Program grant also included the new ergo.

Maroochy River Paddle

Although the race was cancelled several club members and about 10 paddlers from Mooloolaba Paddlers plus Steve from Indooroopilly paddled the course on Sunday 22 August.  The weather was perfect and we enjoyed a cuppa and cake afterwards.

The Maroochy River Paddle is run in conjunction with the Marcoola Surf Life Saving Club.  Funds are raised through sponsorship and entry fees.  The profits are split three ways between our club, Marcoola and one third donated to the Hear and Say Foundation.

It gives me great pleasure to advise that the following organisations have agreed to donate their sponsorship funds for the Maroochy River Paddle to the Hear & Say Foundation.

Carruthers Contracting $250

Sunshine 4WD $500

Alexandra Headland Surf Club $500

North Shore Realty $500

South East Civil $500

Garry Cricks $1,000

Therefore, we have $3,250 to donate to Hear and Say due to the generosity of these sponsors.

COVID

We have been fortunate to be able to continue to paddle while restrictions have been in place.  Thanks to all members for continuing to sign in using our QR code.  There are some ‘take away’ codes in the box on the kitchen bench if you need one to keep in your car.  Keep up the good work everyone.

Queensland Health advises that “Mask wearing has proven to be a strong weapon that helps keep each other safe.  In South East Queensland, you must continue to carry a mask with you at all times when you leave home (unless you have a lawful reason not to) and wear it on public transport and in ride share, outdoors when physical distancing is not possible and indoors unless eating or drinking, or when you can stay more than 1.5 metres away from others.  Additionally, regardless of whether you are indoors or outdoors, you are not required to wear a face mask when vigorously exercising.”
