March 2021 Newsletter

With 2021 now well and truly underway, there has been a lot happening in the paddling world!

Queensland State Sprint and Marathon Titles 6 & 7 February, Lake Kawana

Congratulations to all club members who competed.  Whether or not you made the podium is not as important has how you handled the competition.  See our facebook page for photos from the event.

However, approximately 10 members were selected in the state team with most accepting the nomination.

A special thank you to our volunteers who assisted in the running of events.  Your assistance was invaluable in making the event a success.

Due to COVID the national marathon titles have been cancelled, the national sprint titles have been postponed to May.

Pacific Coast Paddle Series and Virtual Series

Check out the Paddle Queensland web site on the Pacific Coast Series and the Pacific Coast Virtual Series.  We’d love to have you participate in our training sessions as per the email of 12 March 2021.

Jamo Porter Coaching Session

Please advise us if you are interested in some stroke correction with Jamo Porter.  Cost is $25.

Grant Applications

Two applications have been submitted. One to council to replace our worn out, rusty roller doors and one to the Australia Government for junior equipment.

Floor Scarifying

After Easter the floor in the club house will be treated to provide protection from slipping and tripping.  There will be limited access to the club house while this occurs.  So keep an eye out for the email advising the dates.

Electrical Work

Westaway Electrical were engaged to add some power points in the club house at the back; and to move the fluorescent tubes in the road side section that were in danger of being hit with a boat while removing or storing craft.  The old fluro tubes have been replaced with LED lights.

Council Statutory Regulations

As part of the electrical work, Westaway conducted our compulsory RCD testing to enable us to meet our statutory regulation report to the Sunshine Coast Regional Council.  Elements of the statutory compliance include fire safety, electrical safety, back flow prevention and fall prevention.

On Fence Advertising

Please contact the committee if you are interested in adverting on our fencing.

Thanks

Thanks to Bob Hamblet for his efforts in fixing boats with varying degrees of disrepair; and Mal Buchanan for keeping the club lawn mown and prickle free!
