October 2020 Update

Boat Racks/ Boat Storage

The Queensland Government provided $17,500 to our Sunshine Coast Paddlesports Club to replace the rusted boat racks which is enabling more Queenslanders to participate in sport and recreation activities.

Thanks to everyone for their assistance in getting this task completed on the Father’s Day weekend in September.

Annual General Meeting

As advised via email on Friday 25 September, our AGM will be held this Saturday at 9am at the club house.  Please send nominations, proxy votes and any questions prior to the meeting.

Should you need a coffee to keep you awake during proceedings, Cuppa Deim will be there to provide a much needed caffeine boost.

Learn to Paddle

A dedicated group of 11 learners have moved from “come and try” to the “learn to paddle” sessions coached by Jason.  Please make them welcome if you’re around on Saturday mornings.  Also, thanks to members who have volunteered their TK1s and time for this initiative.  I have attached some photos from the come and try to the improvements we are now seeing.

Paddle Queensland Awards

Congratulations to Jason Keating who has been awarded Paddle Queensland club coach of the 2019-20 year; and Delia West who has been awarded Paddle Queensland volunteer of the 2019-20 year.

Pacific Coast Series

10km Series

Kate Regan, Nicky Donaldson, Delia West, Joe Wills, Xavien Maclean, John Smallwood, Mal Buchannan, Matt Remke-Myer and Graeme Hudson competed at the Pacific Coast 10km Paddle Series at Currumbin on Sunday 18 October.  Blasted by winds and high tide, all competitors performed admirably.

Virtual Series

The enthusiasm for the virtual series has waned somewhat but participants are only one month away from finishing the series.  Congratulations to Gillie Matthews who is usually a recreation paddler but has found inspiration to log a few 5km times each month.

Club End of Year Celebration

Please put this date in your calendar for our club end of year celebration on Saturday 14 November in the afternoon/ evening.  Members are asked to express their preference for 1) bring a plate at the club house; or 2) Rivershore Resort and purchase food and drinks as desired.
